"Why I Volunteer"
"My father was my inspiration and my example. He volunteered at a hospital and enjoyed it so much that I began volunteering, too."
Linda Gardner has been a Food Pantry volunteer for two and a half years. She works two shifts each week and is a valuable team member. Thanks, Linda!
Volunteers are the heartbeat of Hill Country Community Ministries, providing more than 8,000 hours of volunteer service each year. The hard work of our volunteers contributes to our overall success and helps us fulfill our mission. Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
The volunteer webmaster is responsibile for updating the HCCM.org Website as needed, including page/site design, graphics editing and optimization, conversion of Office documents to PDF file format, and publication of content to the host server. Updates and changes need to be completed within one to two days after notification.
Volunteers fill client food orders, sort food donations, and restock shelves of the Food Pantry. Morning and afternoon shifts are available Monday through Friday.
Volunteers greet and assist clients, sort and size clothing, and restock the shelves and clothes racks. Morning and afternoon shifts are available on Tuesday and Thursday.
Volunteer caseworkers interview clients, assess their needs, recommend assistance, and make referrals. Training is provided. Morning and afternoon shifts are available Monday through Friday.
Daily Bread Pick-up
Volunteers pick up day-old bread from participating area grocery stores. Pick-ups are made in the morning.
Grounds and Facilities Maintenance
Volunteers are needed to mow grass and maintain the property, including interior and exterior repairs, painting, and carpentry. Major projects are scheduled for Saturdays and provide an ideal volunteer opportunity for small groups from churches. General "fix-it" volunteers are needed weekdays to do odd jobs such as change A/C filters, make small repairs, and pick up parts for repairs on an as-needed basis.
Volunteers with a good driving record and the ability to drive a 1.5 ton truck are needed to pick up donated food and deliver it to HCCM. Drivers are needed during the day and occasionally on the weekend. We have one regularly scheduled pick-up on Friday mornings. Other pick-ups are on an as-needed basis.
